Mid Summer Catch Up

July has been a busy month for me, aside from a little bit of relaxing, I've been working with about 24 students who are continuing with a few lessons this summer - 3 of those are completing exams in August and 2 are brand new to lessons! We've made some great progress together so far.  I've also been doing a lot of reading, learning and planning as I prepare for another exciting year of piano lessons.  I have some new ideas in the works for some practice incentives and hopefully a few fun surprises that will be added along the way.

I also joined Instagram!  Check out shannonrutherfordmusic and follow along to see some behind the scenes in the planning process and sneak peaks of what happens in lessons.  You can also see the feed on the bottom of this page.

Here are some FYI I start getting around this time:

  1. When Do Lessons Start?  Fall Lessons begin on Tuesday September 3 (Same day as school).  Keep an eye on your email in the upcoming weeks when I confirm schedules and give more information.
  2. What do I need to bring?  Those students currently in lessons already will be continuing with their same materials from June.  New students will receive their book list in the email being sent soon.  All students will need to have a notebook.
  3. Any ideas of how to help my child practice this summer? Understandably there is a lack of practice in the summer, however, I can promise that your child will be more excited about returning to lessons if they feel prepared.  Aim to set up a practice schedule for the final weeks of August - this can be a big help.  Plan for at least 15 minutes of practice a day and if possible practice during the morning before the days activities begin.

I can't wait to reconnect with you soon and I look forward to hearing about your summer fun!
