Welcome Back to Piano

All fall lessons are starting up again this week.  I'm excited to see all of you again (through the computer) and can't wait to see each of your smiling faces!

I have some fun things planned for the year including a few new practice challenges, games and recitals.

It's almost time to restart our fall piano lessons.  As stated in the studio email that got sent out last week, we will be starting our September lessons virtually. I will continue to monitor the situation throughout the year with the intention that in person lessons will resume at some point.  

In the meantime, I am still planning some fun activities for our return - new music, games, and practice challenges will all be part of our fall as they normally would.   I'm looking forward to seeing each of you soon!

September Recap

What a great first month of lessons!  This month saw the return of many students and also the start of many new students as they began their first piano lessons and we are so excited to welcome them to the studio!

We focused on getting into routines, worked on black keys and started the white keys.  Continued with rhythm work, learning the piano alphabet, reinforcing staff reading skills and good old fashion theory homework.



Several returning students have already made great progress - finishing books, starting RCM songs, working on new scales and sight reading skills and preparing for upcoming exams.

This month we are focusing on our "Pump-kin up the Practice" challenge which will hopefully see all students working on method books reinforce their practice habits and really make daily practice part of their routine.  We will also have fun working on some Halloween inspired songs soon!

I am in the process of finalizing the date and time of our Christmas Recital - hopefully will have that confirmed this week.

We're Pump-kin Up the Practice

Our first practice challenge of the year is here!

For those students who are currently in method books this one for you!  Each lesson, start tomorrow, I will be assigning a little challenge to complete at home during practice time.   There are 4 challenges total.  Once all challenges are completed, each student will receive a prize for all of their hard work!

Each student will receive a challenge sheet that is designed to travel home and back to lessons each week - please help your child complete their challenge and checking off the boxes, then send the sheet back to the next lesson.  Here at the studio each student participating will have a pumpkin on the wall.  Each week when I see the student has completed their weekly challenge they will add a specific part to their pumpkin (right eye, left eye, nose and mouth) ending off the challenge with a jack-o-lanturn (just in time for Halloween!)

Fall Piano

Starts today!  I'm so excited to start back to our weekly lessons.

I sent everyone an email last week confirming your exact lesson day/time - please remember to bring your lesson book, theory book, and notebook that were mentioned in the email.

Also remember to follow our Instagram page (shannonrutherfordmusic).  It's been a lot of fun counting down the last week of summer leading up to today!  Stay tuned for some pictures of lessons, videos, behind the scenes and other surprises.  Everyone was sent an attachment with the media release forms - please send those back on our first lesson.  I will also have extras at the studio if anyone needs them

The calendar tab at the top is currently up to date!  Refer back to it throughout the year for special dates, holidays, etc.

One More Week!

Fall lesson begin in one week from today!  I can't believe it!  I'm now in full on fall prep mode - I was just at staples picking up some fun things for Instagram, later this week it's onto scholar's choice for a new sticker chart and some other fun decorations and stickers!

Be sure to check your email this week for final confirmation of your lesson day and time and what you need to bring.   Enjoy the last week of summer!

Welcome Back

Looking forward to seeing everyone this week and to hear all about your fun March Break activities!

Coming home this week with everyone will be summer lesson registration information.   Once again summer lessons are optional and you will have your choice of 4, 5 or 6 lessons.  
I'm asking that all forms be returned to me by May 12 to give me time to arrange the schedule by the beginning of June.

For my home students, fall returning registration will able be sent home this week.  Beckett school students will receive their fall registration package soon.
